The judiciary is the government branch which keeps the rule of law, protects and promotes human rights, resolves complaints between citizens and citizens and public authorities, as well as carries out punishments and disciplinary actions against criminals. This means that the judiciary is responsible for the general justice of the country so that citizens of Somalia get impartial judicial services by honest, trustworthy, and competent professionals who are knowledgeable about the work they do.

The country’s justice systems share the complete institutional failure over the past 30 years with other branches of government due to civil wars. After many efforts have been made, the judiciary has been reorganized but still faces many barriers such as security, institutions that have not yet fully functional, limited the number of judicial personnel with knowledge and experience to provide equitable justice service, inadequate financial and operational infrastructure, an alleged widespread corruption, and lack of clear justice upon new federal system that has not yet been adapted in the judiciary institutions.

The Mission of Somalia judiciary is steping towards a modern efficient judicial system that can deliver timely justice to its people. The judiciary will characterize with equity,  integrity and excellence, contributing to the strengthening of rule of law, and respect of fundamental human rights of our people. The Judiciary will advance indigenous jurisprudence and protect the constitution

Vision

The Vision of Somalia Judiciary is to realize a country governed by the rule of law with an efficient and independent judicial institutions  in the delivery of justice to all.
